Educator Story
Eric Palcic, Holy Rosary Primary School, Dublin 24
A Classroom Transformed
In Eric Palcic’s sixth class at Holy Rosary Primary School, collaboration and creativity took centre stage as students opened their first Kinia STEM kit, The Night Lantern.
Working in teams of three, students watched the instructional video through Kinia Academy together before replaying it step by step, carefully building their houses. The classroom quickly became a space of shared problem-solving and encouragement, with children who completed tasks early offering help to others. The lesson was not only engaging, but deeply collaborative.
“It was an enormously enjoyable lesson and a very collaborative and engaging experience.”
A Moment Worth Celebrating
When the houses were finished, students brought their creations outside to take group photos in front of the school crest, celebrating their teamwork, creativity, and achievement. It was more than a photo opportunity, but rather a chance to celebrate their creativity and new skills in action.
Learning That Lasts
A shift in mindset was observed among the young people. Conversations about smart energy and environmental responsibility continued well beyond the lesson itself, with young people already excited about the next Kinia project.
“The children are much more engaged with smart energy and the environment than before, which is fantastic to see and hear as their teacher.”
Why It Worked
Collaborative by Design Working in teams of three created a natural culture of peer support, with stronger students stepping up to help others.
Learn at Your Own Pace Kinia Academy’s replayable video instructions let students self-direct with confidence, reducing pressure and building independence.
STEM That Sticks This wasn’t a one-day activity. The conversations it sparked about smart energy and the environment carried on long after the kit was packed away.
